Community “Paradigms of Human Memory” S2 E21 Song/Video Update

Many you guys have been reaching this blog (and this review of last week’s Community episode) by searching for the song used in the Jeff/Annie bit from last week’s Community.

The song is “Gravity,” by Sara Bareilles. Personally, I love her music, though I only own her first album. “Love Song” is probably her most famous hit, though “King of Anything” has been playing on the radio these past few months.

Anyhow, apparently the song sequence Community used was a direct, affectionate, parody of this fan video:

I can definitely see the similarities. Dan Harmon warned the video creator ahead of time and said that the video sequences in the show were meant as homages, not as insults.

I do follow some of the writers and actors involved with Community, since I am, as said before, a Mega Fan. They heavily engage with the audience. They send fanfiction to each other, post responses to new fan art, browse through fan groups. Any show whose creators care so much about their fan base is a good show, in my opinion.

Plus, funny. Really funny.

Bonus: Here’s one of my Sara Bareilles favorites, a lesser known song called “Fairytale.”
